Episode Overview
Today we read Ezekiel chapters 8 through 10, one of the most sobering passages in the book. Ezekiel is lifted in a vision and carried to the temple in Jerusalem, where God shows him what is going on behind closed doors. He digs through a wall and finds a hidden room covered in carved images. He sees women weeping for a foreign god. He sees men standing between the porch and the altar with their backs to the sanctuary, bowing east to the sun. The betrayal is not out in the open—it is tucked into side rooms, hidden in plain sight.
What follows is judgment carried out within the temple precincts, with a mark of protection given only to those who grieve and sigh over what is being done. Then comes the image the whole passage has been building toward: the glory of God rises from above the cherubim, moves to the threshold, and departs. This is not an abrupt abandonment. It is slow, deliberate, and sorrowful—a withdrawal in response to sustained unfaithfulness. The city will fall, but this is the deeper loss.
