Episode Overview
Today we finish Daniel with chapters 9 through 12. It begins with Daniel reading Scripture. He is working through Jeremiah, comes across the promise of seventy years, does the arithmetic, and realizes the time is nearly up. What he does next is worth noticing: he does not celebrate, he repents. His prayer is one of the great confessions in Scripture, and he includes himself throughout—we have sinned, we have done wrong—despite being the most obviously faithful man in the book.
The answer comes through the angel Gabriel with a timeline of seventy weeks, dense and much debated, pointing toward an anointed one who will be cut off. Whatever else the passage means, its function is clear: God has not lost track of His people or His schedule.
The final vision opens with three weeks of mourning and a figure whose appearance leaves Daniel without strength. What follows is a long account of kings rising and falling, conflicts in detail, and beneath all of it the insistence that these upheavals unfold under God's hand. Those who are wise and lead others toward righteousness will shine like the brightness of the heavens. The book closes gently: Daniel is told to go his way and rest, and that he will rise to receive his allotted inheritance at the end of days.
