Episode Overview
Today we read Ezekiel chapters 11 through 13. The leaders still in Jerusalem are confident they are safe—they compare the city to a cooking pot and themselves to the meat inside it, protected by the walls. God dismantles that confidence. But immediately alongside the judgment comes a promise that reaches much further than survival: the scattered exiles will be gathered, and God will give them an undivided heart and a new spirit. The exiles who think distance means abandonment are the ones being promised a future.
Ezekiel then packs a bag and digs through a wall in front of everyone, carrying his belongings out at dusk with his face covered—a rehearsal of the exile still to come. The last section takes on prophets who announce peace when God has said nothing. Ezekiel's picture is exact: they are building a flimsy wall and covering it with whitewash, and when the storm comes the whitewash will not hold. True prophecy comes only from an actual encounter with God's word—and even the promises of restoration rest not on the people's merit but on God's own name and purposes.
