What do you say to someone who is simply worn out? Today we read Jeremiah chapters 45 through 48, which open with a short, deeply personal word to Baruch, the scribe who wrote Jeremiah's words down. Baruch is exhausted and grieving, and God's reply is startlingly honest—He does not promise relief or greatness, only that Baruch will escape with his life. Faithfulness in a collapsing world does not always come with reward, and God does not pretend otherwise.
